new digs

My wife graduated college with a piano pedagogy degree, which is university speak for a degree that prepares one to teach piano. While she did have a few "stints" teaching a student here or there, she did not begin teaching as a career until about 2004. We had prepared a couple rooms in our home that we used exclusively for this business. When we shifted to our newer home in 2007, we had the home outfitted for her business by building out a room to be used specifically for her full time teaching business. Her marketing and teaching was effective in growing her business substantially enough that she felt she could no longer operate from our home. Additionally, she had wanted to add other teachers and instruments to her business offering but did not have the space or facilities to do so. She began looking for a suitable commercial location to establish a full fledged business and found one at a reasonable price that would work well for what she was trying to accomplish. We did some minor work to get it ready for her and she moved her business into the new building two weeks ago. Knowing that this new business will cost money before it makes money, I decided to leave my prior office and set up inside my wife's new building. I have my own office inside the building and I will operate just as I used to - only now I will essentially be renting from her. In addition to my investment business, I'm certain I will also be the maintenance man, financial manager, landscaping crew, and water boy. This new opportunity will certainly give me proper motivation to get my insurance and investment business ramped up so that I can pay for someone else to do what I'm currently doing. When all is said and done, my daughters will probably end up teaching a few beginner lessons and working part time as a receptionist. The'll be immersed.

I'm sure that all things work together for good, so I'm certain that this decision will work out well. But the beginning bumps and hurdles of a new business are beating me up right now. I'll be glad when it gets established.
